Part of the core objectives of setting prison yards is for reformation of the individual through the experiences and programs of incarceration. However, many factors seem to be working against the reformatory aspect of prisons, especially the deplorable condition of prison centers.
More so, according to Amnesty International, Those awaiting trial constitute about 65% of prison inmates in Nigeria. Not many people think about the plight of prisoners and to reach out to them. But few people do, and Omotayo is one of such good hearted young persons using her Prison Empowerment Project (PEP). Her initiative seeks to empower prison inmates with remarkable skills to ensure their livelihood when out of prison and also advocates for release of those awaiting trial. Currently working in Okelisa Prison in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, her training program has reached about 53 inmates on live skill training and also secured the bail of 5 inmates who awaited trial for over 10 years.
