DESPLAY Republic elects new president
June 30, 2010Putting into practice what the’ve learned in DESPLAY, participants of DESPLAY Season 5 Semester 2 went to the polls to elect who will enter the DESPLAY republic ship as the President for the next one year.
It all started with the formation of political parties, where three parties emerged; The Democratic Republic Party (DRP), More Action Less Talk Party (MALT), and Generation Changers Congress Party (GCC).
After the election guidelines where formed and given by DESNEC (DESPLAY National Electoral Commission) headed by Mr. Nathaniel Bagudu an alumni, Mr. wale an alumni, and miss Titilayo an alumni, room was given for suggestions by participants. All was taken into consideration.
One of the high points of the election was the presidential debates/manifesto presentation where the three candidates Mr. Babafemi Oyediran (DRP), Mr Obinna Udenwe (MALT), and Mr. Emmanuel Nwokwu(GCC) spoke passionately about their plans for the republic in the next two years.
On the election date, MALT and GCC political parties merged and adopted Mr. Obinna Udenwe of MALT party as their
flag bearer.
The conduct of the election was peaceful and had the presence of all DESNEC officials, an external and internal observer, media representatives and security personnel, and representatives of each party.
At the end of the election, all 22 registered voters voted and Mr. Babafemi Oyediran of DRP emerged winner with 14 votes as against 8 votes scored by MALT’s Mr. Obinna Udenwe.
There was jubilation and cordial solidarity by all members of DESPLAY Republic for their new President.
